Director of Christian Education

Summary:  Eagle United Methodist Church has an immediate opening for a Director of Christian Education.  The person in this role manages our Sunday School and small group ministries, working with church members, staff, volunteers and committees to support the church’s mission to grow disciples for Jesus Christ.

Responsibilities (Sunday School):

  • Recruit leaders, teachers, and helpers for all Sunday School positions
  • Plan and coordinate a regular program of training for all Sunday School staff
  • Communicate with the congregation regarding the purpose, value and procedures of Sunday School via newsletters and bulletins
  • Oversee the purchase, distribution and use of all equipment and supplies (curriculum, art supplies, etc)
  • Plan and provide materials for Children’s Church to coordinate with Sunday School curriculum and/or sermon topics
  • Vacation Bible School coordination and leadership, including recruiting volunteers, coordinating with other churches, publicity and supplies
  • Evangelize the Sunday School program to other church groups, such as the preschool and other groups
  • Meet with senior pastor weekly and agree on tasks and priorities

 Responsibilities (Small Groups):

  • Provide direction and coaching to small group leaders through monthly calls
  • Research and select studies for small groups
  • Help write curriculum for small groups
  • Conceive ideas for new small groups around different demographics or interests
  • Advertise and promote small groups
  • Manage logistics for small groups (dates, times, locations)
  • Meet with senior pastor weekly and agree on tasks and priorities

  • Flexible schedule (this role has seasonal periods of high and low activity)

Commitment:                    Part-time position of 15 hours per week

Pay rate:                              $15.00 per hour (salaried position)


  • Reports directly to senior pastor and SPRC
  • First performance review after three-month evaluation period; annual performance review thereafter
  • Expected commitment of at least one year
